LOCAL mobile content provider AKN Messaging Technologies (AKN MTECH) has signed an agreement with Bond Wireless, a division of Australian-based Smartedu.com Pty Ltd to provide secure SMS (short message service) solutions in the region.

The product called SMS SecureTrans is based on Bond Wireless’ patented SMS authentication and verification process. The technology will only allow recipients who have a valid secure password to access the SMS messages.

" This solution permits the sending of sensitive information over SMS and solves the problems associated with non-repudiation by providing a virtual receipt in the cellphone via SMS," said Dr Clarence Tan, chief executive of Bond Wireless.

He said this technology is currently being used by Australian hospitals to notify communicable disease patients of their medical test results privately and securely, while providing the doctors with proof of receipt.

SMS SecureTrans works across all common cellular platforms such as GSM (Global System for Mobile communications), GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), EDGE (Enhance Data rate for GSM Evolution) and 3G (third-generation) systems.

Tan said Bond Wireless chose the Mesdaq-listed AKN MTECH as its partner because the company has a regional reach and is a leader in the mobile messaging arena.

" Our partnership with AKN MTECH ensures that our technology will get the right exposure and market penetration," he said.

We are delighted to partner Bond Wireless as they are leaders in this technology, said Lester N. Francis, general manager of AKN MTECH.

" We believe SMS SecureTrans will definitely complement our existing portfolio of solutions for the financial sector," he added.
